The Spice Bazaar — the Mısır Çarşısı, or Egyptian Bazaar — is Istanbul's most fragrant market, a 17th-century L-shaped hall of vaulted arcades in the heart of Eminönü. Built in the 1660s as part of the New Mosque complex, it was funded by trade with Ottoman Egypt, and to this day its stalls overflow with pyramids of spice, saffron, dried fruit, nuts and tea.
